Training camp has opened and basketball is picking back up. When we last left, San Antonio wipped the Cleveland Lebrons four games to none proving that thy are a great team. Lebron proved he is down right unbelievable with scoring the last 1,000 points against the Pistons. We had the Warriors running crazy, we had the Suns and Spurs, the fight the suspescions, and the Spurs advacing but not really proving they were better than the Suns last year, Deron Williams proved he can eat at the big table, and we had the offseason. Kevin's wearing green with Ray-Ray, Kobe wants to be traded, then doesn't, then does, someone give that man a hug, and Shawn Marion wanting to not play with the best point gaurd alive down right dumb. So on the eve of the start of the next season I will be watching and blogging more and more about the NBA becuase it's fantastic. I going to try and out together the Derryberry NBA powerpoll every week ranking the Teams from 32 to 1 starting with a season preview where I pick divison winners, playoffs teams, and conferance and the Champion, Just to see how well I do.
To kick start this Derryberry's NBA Corner. Let Say and Alien Race came to Earth and said we know our weapons are supperior but we want to give you a fighting chance to save your planet we will play you in a game of basketball. The kicker is we have a machine that will put the men you choose to represent Planet earth back in their prime playing days. 12 men against supperior aliens best of seven, who do we roll the rice with.
This is my list.
Magic Johnson and Micheal Jordan are the first two people I call. Can't you see Jordan licking his lips about the possibility of dropping 50 on an alien. Magic has to be the guy to run the show.
Next I call Larry Bird and Shaq. Shaq in his hey day 7 foot 300 ballet force of nature Center closest thing ever to an alien on a basketball court (minus Sam Cassell) Larry would love the chance to smack talk an alien, plus nobody played the passing lanes better. He's going to hit one game winner in this series
Rounding out my starting Five is Tim Duncan. Can't you just see Duncan being like wow all i have to do is rebound, play defense and run the floor and catch passed from Magic yeah i'm in.
Now to the Bench and here's wear things get tricky to we take other big guns like Kobe, Iverson, Hakeem, Malone and Stocken, Dr. J Wilt and Barkley who are used to being the big guns and playing all the time or do you take gys like pippen, reggie miller, Kidd, Garnett, and Russell who are can play with other superstars and still be successful.
Back up point we have so many options Isiah Thomas, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd. Thomas was a beast and a great scoring point guard, Kidd can run the break the best of the three defensively and Nash could rwreak havoc being the leader of all these horse but can't play D. I'm going with Kidd at his best i think he is the second greatest PG ever he can run the break almost as good as Nash but plays D show much better.
Shooting Gaurd we have Kobe, Iverson, Miller, and Drexler. Kobe has the problem of wanting to be the big dog and in this house we won't sniff top dog could be a problem. Iverson is the best under 6 foot guy ever and you can't match his speed but can he handle only getting 5 shots a game, Miller can shoot the three, Drexler is the least talented of the four but might have the best personality to come off the bench of the four. I'm going with Kobe, for all his faults you can't play a basketball game for earth and not bring Kobe, just tell him he's 6th man and his job is to score he'll be fine.
Small Foward comes down to Dr. J. Pippen becuase I DR. J was the man back in the Day and Pippen is the greatest second Bannana of all time meaing it would fit great on this team alreayd playing so many years with Jordan. And I'm going with Bron Bron to play small foward. I know maybe he hasn't earned it yet but i go with the kobe agrue ment again we are playing for the human race and it's basketball Bron Bron has to be involved. Plus he will have no problem being the 8 or 9th guy on this team where is which he needs to be.
Power Foward in easy Russell. the guy won 11 championships play D and Doesn't need the ball to affect the game I mean they created the stat block shot because of him. He stand 6'10" so I don't care he played Center back in the day he would be a power foward now.
Center to me comes down to Hakeem vs Wilt. I don't think Wilt would want to be a back-up and he would cause problems. and Hakeem proved he was the best of the Duncan, Ewing, and Hakeem hey Day. I think Hakeem would be fine comeing of the Bench.
The Final two spots First one goes to the LOGO Jerry West. He can score, he wouldn't mind playing behind all these guys and for the love of pete he's the logo how do we not allow the logo to be on the team and Finally Bill Walton with two good feet the man was unbelievable. Plus he will make a great cheerleader and already took a lesser role once to win the big series. I don't see it bothering him either.
To recap
